Mehmood founded Altius Financial Advisors in November 2001 to fulfill his vision of providing objective and sound financial advice and professional portfolio management to the growing number of consumers who needed such services. 

Mehmood has over 25 years of experience in finance and accounting. Until March 2001, he was Vice President and Assistant Treasurer of Fannie Mae, the nation's largest investor in home mortgages. As Assistant Treasurer, he was responsible for a multi-billion dollar funding, derivatives, hedging and short-term investment program.

Prior to joining Fannie Mae, Mehmood was a consultant for Radan Systems, Inc., a company specializing in developing financial systems for government agencies. Before that, he was an auditor for G. Basu and Co., an accounting firm in India.

Mehmood has an MBA from Cornell University and a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from St. Xavier's College in India. He's a CFP® professional, a CFA charterholder, and an Associate Chartered Accountant. He holds a Series 65 license for Investment Advisers.

Mehmood is a member of the CFA® Institute, the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

Mehmood lives in Bethesda, Maryland, with his wife and three sons.  He is an avid sportsman and used to be a nationally-ranked squash player in India and the US in the 80s and early 90s.  He coached the Cornell University Women's Squash Team from 1983 to 1985.  He enjoys crossword and jigsaw puzzles, sudokus and watching Roger Federer play tennis.
